Maquire State Mission Offering

Today I would like to share this important letter from Dr. John Sullivan our Executive Director of the Florida Baptist Convention

Dear Pastors:

Only eternity will reveal all of the many good things that happen in our "neighborhoods" because of your love, leadership and grace. Thank you for allowing God's call to continue to work out all that redemption has worked in.

I need your help. During the second week of September, Florida Baptists will observe the Week of Prayer for State Missions and the Maguire State Mission Offering.

All of our mission work supported by the offering is vital to the Kingdom-assistance for new churches, more than nine compassionate ministries and mission camps to help develop our next generation of believers and missionaries. The offering also underwrites our mission partnerships nationally and internationally.

However, at this time, our work in Haiti is absolutely critical. We have had "boots-on-the-ground" since day one after the January 12 earthquake. We have been able to do what we have done because of our 15-year partnership and network of 900 churches in Haiti. Our seven missionaries are paid through the resources of the Maguire State Mission Offering. There has never been a more crucial time for the offering in Haiti.

Pastor, help us go into the "neighborhoods" of Haiti where people are responding to the gospel in unprecedented numbers. Our missionaries report more than 150,000 Haitians have been saved since the earthquake and 130 new churches have been started to conserve the harvest.

The need is great. The opportunity is now. Please pray for the missions and ministry efforts of Florida Baptists. Please give to the State Mission Offering and lead your church to give.

May the good things of grace continue.

Blessings,

John Sullivan

Plan of Salvation

What do you understand it takes for a person to go to Heaven?

Consider how the Bible answers this question: It 's a matter of FAITH

F is FORGIVENESS

We cannot have eternal life and heaven without God's forgiveness. Read Ephesians 1:7a

A is for AVAILABLE

Forgiveness is available. It is

     * Available for all. Read John 3:16

     * But not automatic Read Matthew 7:21a

I is for IMPOSSIBLE

It is impossible for God to allow sin into heaven.

*Because of who He is: God is loving and just. His judgment is against sin. Read James 2:13a

*Because of who we are: Every person is a sinner. Read Romans 3:23

But how can a sinful person enter heaven, when God allows no sin?

T is for TURN

Turn means to repent.

*Turn from something - sin and self. Read Luke 13:3b

*Turn to Someone; trust Christ only. Read Romans 10:9

H is for Heaven

Heaven is eternal life.

     *Here - Read John 10:10b

     *Hereafter - Read John 14:3

How can a person have God's forgiveness, heaven and eternal life, and Jesus as personal Savior and Lord? By trusting in Christ and asking Him for forgiveness. Take the step of faith described by another meaning of FAITH: Forsaking All I Trust Him.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and have displeased You in many ways. I believe You died for my sin and only through faith in Your death and resurrection can I be forgiven.

I want to turn from my sin and ask You to come into my life as my Savior and Lord. From this day on, I will follow You by living a life that pleases You. Thank You, Lord Jesus for saving Me. Amen.

After you have received Jesus Christ into your life, tell a Christian friend about this important decision you have made. Follow Christ in believer's baptism and church membership. Grow in your faith and enjoy new friends in Christ by becoming part of His church. There, you'll find others who will love and support you.

Patience

Patience is welcoming trials and tribulations as friends and allowing them to perfect our character. The word patience presupposes an adverse situation that must be endured. Thus, patience is accepting a difficult situation from God without giving Him a deadline to remove it.

How patient are you?

* Do you realize that the final results of life's situations are in God's hands?

* Do you take time to listen to God's voice when you pray?

* Do you wait for God to answer your prayers in His timing?

* Do you fulfill your responsibilities while waiting on the Lord or others?

* Do you look to the face of God while waiting for provisions from His hand?

* Do you joyfully endure pain and suffering?

* Do you patiently instruct those for whom you are responsible?

* Do you rejoice in trials instead of becoming bitter?

May we have hope in the Lord, "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope" (Romans 15:4)

On Saturday, July 10th, we left Celebration Church in New Orleans and headed back to Florida. Before we left New Orleans we toured the French Quarters for several hours. This is not one of my favorite things to do but it seem that our group enjoyed going through the French Market and seeing the sites of the French Quarter. We also got to eat one last meal in New Orleans, I love that food! Cathy and I had a roast beef poboy (sandwich) and a stuffed articoke. We travel from New Orleans to Marianna, Florida this evening. Our group is doing well, but every one is very tired. In the morning we will leave and take off to LaBelle. Please pray for us because every one is tired.

On Sunday, July 11th, Paul Martin will be preaching the morning service at 11AM and Brother Lonnie Howard will be preaching at 6pm. Please be praying for these two men as they share God's word this Sunday. You can also support them by your attendance this Lord's Day.

I hope you have a Great Day in the Lord!

Today has been a great day. Today is our last day on the mission field in New Orleans. It has been hard to say good bye to everyone. Tonight we have Family Night at Celebration River Parishes where we have been doing VBS. The children will be singing and then we are having Hot Dogs, Popcorn and recreation time for every one. It should be a fun time by all.

Our lives have been touch this week by the people we have come into contact with. The group I was with, worked in a Senior Adult Day Care Center and these people were such a blessing. One lady was 104 and still pretty active another lady was 97. The stories they told were great and we came to help them but they bless our hearts so much. We have made some new friends in these Senior Adults in Kingsley House.

On Saturday we will doing some sightseeing in New Orleans and then leave and start our way back to LaBelle. Please pray for our travel on Saturday and Sunday. We hope to be back in LaBelle on Sunday afternoon.

One of our teams was sent to Slidell to work in a warehouse loading building supplies while another team worked in a warehouse in St. Bernard unloading building supplies. Some of our guys were doing some plumbing work in different parts of the city. The group that at the Adult Day Care Center did a craft project with the Senior Adults. We helped them make prayer journals and it took awhile, but they enjoyed themselves very much. After lunch they played Bingo with incredible precision and enthusiasm. We took a nap:)

Last night at VBS we had two young girls get saved in our 3rd, 4th, 5th grade class. Our attendance in running around 35 students and we are having a great time. We are looking forward to our two last days in New Orleans.

New Orleans Mission Team Report 2

Yesterday was a great day for us in New Orleans. Our two construction teams went down to St. Bernard Housing Project for orientation and then began work. They also split our two teams into three teams. Some of our guys was doing plumbing and electrical work and our other two teams were doing sheetrock work.

The group that I was with went to the Kingley's House. We worked with lower income Senior Adults. They call it Senior Adult Day Care. They feed them breakfast, lunch and a snack before they go home. Seven of us went to this ministry. We read Scripture, sang hymns, played games and just talk to them. Many of them were willing to talk to you and tell you stories. Today we are going to take some of our VBS crafts and share them with the Senior Adults. It is such a blessing working with this people.

Please continue to prayer for us and we are praying for our church.

From the Pastor's Desk:

June was a great and wonderful month. Cathy and I celebrated two wonderful events in our
lives in June. The first was completing 15 years of service here at First Baptist Church of
LaBelle. In those 15 years we have experienced many wonderful things in the life of our church
and also in our lives. When I look back to where we were and where God has led us now, I’m
excited for what God is doing in our church. Yes things have changed but I believe God is
blessing us at the same time. The second great event in June was our son, Aaron marrying
Michelle Mink. This was a blessed day in our lives and Cathy and I would like to thank each
member of the church for your support, help and prayers during this time. Cathy and I very
much felt that this was a church wedding because the church (this church) took a major part in
helping. We thank you very much.

As we enter the month of July, we are in the heart of the summer months and many of our
folks will be taking vacation. I must remind you that in the summer months our expenditures
are up and our income seems to go down. Please don’t forget to give to the church in the
summer months. If we keep God first throughout the year he will bless you.

This week we will be leaving with 37 people from our church to go to the New Orleans area to
work. In the mornings part of our group will work rebuilding homes in the St. Bernard Housing
Project in St. Bernard Parish. At night, Monday through Friday, we will do VBS for the
Celebrating Church – River Parishes in LaPlace, Louisiana. We don’t know what to expect
because this church hasn’t had Vacation Bible School in several years. What a great
opportunity for us to minister to these children at this church. Please pray for your mission
team this week and as we travel and work in the New Orleans area.

Last Sunday our church nominated 19 men to be considered as deacons. The list of these men
has been given to the Deacons and they have begun to pray over the list and seek God’s
leadership on who to bring to the church. Two men will be brought before the church for
consideration to serve a three year term.

Our new Nominating Committee will begin work this month to fill the leadership positions of
our church. Each member is asked to fill out a leadership survey to help the Nominating
Committee in their work. Surveys can be found in your Sunday School classroom and in the
foyer of the church. There will also be a Survey included in your July Newsletter. Please fill out
your Survey as soon as you can.

Please continue to pray for God’s mercy concerning this year’s Hurricane Season. All we can do
is be prepared and pray for God’s mercy on this season.

Respectfully,
Pastor Frank

Southern Baptist Convention Day 1

Several important things took place at the Southern Baptist Convention today. Frank Page was elected as the next president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Executive Committee June 14 in Orlando, Florida. A former SBC president, Page will succeed Morris H. Chapman, who is retiring after 18 years in the position.

Page, 57, most recently served as vice president of evangelization for the North American Mission Board and was pastor of First Baptist Church in Taylors, S.C., for nine years and SBC president from 2006-08. Page told the Executive Committee his goal is that the group will be unified in its passion to see the world won to Jesus Christ, and he pledged to love the committee members and to work with all his might.

Southern Baptist Convention messengers Tuesday afternoon elected Atlanta-area pastor Bryant Wright as their next president of the convention. Wright is pastor of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Ga.

Southern Baptist Convention messengers also overwhelmingly adopted the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force report Monday afternoon after it was amended twice to strengthen the language regarding the Cooperative Program.

Preston and I also attended the Luther Rice Seminary luncheon today with Dr. Long and Dr. Flanagan the President of the Seminary. We got to meet some of our friends that we have gone on Mission Trips with and a great time was held by all.

Southern Baptist Pastor's Conference Day 2

Today was a great day at the Pastor's Conference in Orlando. I met some of my friends that I haven't seen in quiet awhile. Lamar Duke who now is a NAMB missionary in New York. Lamar was Cathy's pastor for awhile and he was one of the ministers that married us. Preston and I met Dr. Flanagan who is the President of Luther Rice Seminary and University and Dr. Jim Whattle who is a board member of Luther Rice University. We also came in contact with Dean Dawson who was the Director at the camp in Jamaica. He is now serving at a church in Georgia and goes down to the camp in Jamaica every few months to check on the camp.

Today we got to hear a young man name, Matt Chandler who has served as lead pastor of The Village Church in Highland Village, Texas since 2002. His message was a true blessing. Even tonight I'm still thinking about his message today and God's Kingdom. Some of the other speakers were Albert Mohler, Jr., Andy Stanley and David Platt.

On Tuesday the Southern Baptist Convention starts with its business session. Dr. Johnny Hunt will be bringing the Presidents Message in the Morning Session. At lunch on Tuesday we will be attending the National Alumni Luncheon for Luther Rice Seminary and University. This will be a good experience for Preston since he is attending this university. I will whole on to my roots with New Orleans Threological Seminary in New Orleans.

Please pray for us today as we will be driving home Tuesday Afternoon. Also prayers for our Southern Baptist Convention as the convention will go on to Wednesday evening. Several matters will be discuss and voted on at this years convention.

Buckets of Hope Update

As I shared in my last post, I'm at Lake Yale for meetings for the Florida Baptist Convention. At our meeting Dr. Sullivan has given us reports about out work in Haiti. Dr. Sullivan stated that our feeding and food distribution continues at full speed. On an almost daily basis we are sending food supplies of rice, beans and pasta. Bulk food purchased within the country has included 132,120 pounds of rice and 12,000 pounds of beans. Additionally, foodstuffs purchased in the United States and shipped (or waiting to be shipped) to Haiti include: 205,000 pounds of rice; 85,000 pounds of beans; and 14,000 pounds of pasta. The food has been and will continue to be distributed within the country through the coordinated efforts by the Haitian Baptist pastors with distribution being from Haitian Baptist church houses.

Soon the bulk food distribution will be supplemented by 152,000 Buckets of Hope which were contributed by Baptists in Florida and across the Southern Baptist Convention. Two initial shipments involving 31 shipping containers departed from Louisiana and Ft. Lauderdale ports. The containers arrived in Saint Marc, Haiti, but were being held by Haitian custom officials until receiving government clearances. Craig Culbreth reports that meetings have been held between high-ranking government officials and Delouis Labranche, director of ministry for the C.M.B.H., and Joseph Gaston in an attempt to secure the release of the Buckets of Hope for distribution. As soon as ongoing negotiations for customs clearance have been secured, the remaining 111,000 Buckets of Hope are expected to be shipped.

Continue to pray for the people of Haiti and its government. Thank You Lord for the work that is going on in Haiti and for the precious souls that are coming to you.

I'm attending the State Board of Missions Meeting at Lake Yale this week. Dr. Sullivan will be giving us a report on the work in Haiti. In that report the Haitian missionary personnel have reported a total of 85,377 professions of faith have been made as of mid-April. A subsequent mid-May report indicated that as a result of the three evangelistic crusades - which produced 95,203 spiritual decisions - when added to the previous commitments, established a new total of 135,330 professions of faith.

We have also had 64 new church starts since January 12, 2010. Planning and funding process has begun to begin at least 200 new churches by December 31, 2010. Each church will serve as a distribution center for the gospel; a distribution center for counseling and hope; a distribution center for meeting humanitarian needs (feeding, clothing, etc.). At mid May report updated the total new church starts at 135.

In the three months since a January 12 earthquake devasted Haiti, Florida Baptists have worked alongside their Haitian brothers and sisters and Southern Baptists to distribute rice, staff medical clinics, provide counseling and fill countless physical and spiritual needs. As of April 24, a combined total of 88 Florida Baptist and Southern Baptist volunteer teams had ministered in Haiti. These included: 34 medical teams; four chaplaincy training groups; 35 home inspection and chaplain counseling teams; five water system delivery/purification teams; six demolition teams; and four teams working in warehouses to facilitate storage of bulk foodstuffs.

The Florida Baptist Convention staff has worked with local church leaders and the Miami and Palm Lake Baptist Association to minister to over 150 refugees transferred into Florida from Haiti by the U.S. government. These have included 43 families, comprised of 143 individuals, and another thirteen unattached persons.

Dr. Sullivan calls this "Hallelujah in Haiti! Only the Father knows the great impact for the gospel that is emerging out of this earthquake. He is allowing us to share in moving a nation from tragedy to triumph."

Pre-School Dinner

Last night we had a dinner for our church Pre-School with the proceeds of the dinner going for a new fence for our new play yard. We had over 155 people come to our dinner last night and we appreciate everyone who attended. We collected $1030.00 from the dinner and we had some expenses that we will take out of that amount. The cost of the new fence will be $1,300.00 so we are well on our way to get this fence paid for. The fence has been ordered and should be installed very soon. If you would like to give toward this project you can write a check to First Baptist Church of LaBelle and mark it Pre-School Fence.

We also have two big swing sets that we want to put in our new play yard. If you would like to help with installing these swing sets, please let Preston Long, Paul Burchard or Bob Burns know. Once again thank you for the support of our church Pre-School.

Church Ministry

This past weekend our Youth had a Lock-In. We had over 30 young people at the Lock-In. Bro. Preston talk to our Youth about the Jewish passover and had the Lord's Supper with them. Many of the youth were touch by this experence and are still talking about it. When the Lock-In was over on Saturday the youth help hide over 2300 easter eggs for the Church Pre-School and Children Easter Egg Hunt. I am so glad that we have different ministry for our adults, youth, children and preschool. As a church we want to do ministry that will help people come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Each year our church sets a budget so we can do ministry in our church and community. We ask each member to tithe or give an offering to the church on a regular basis. Our Weekly Budget requirements to meet our 2010 budget is $6,968.34. Each week we need this amount to reach our budget goals for 2010 and to continue to do ministry in our church and community. Up to this point we have received $72,538.53 for our budget and to do ministry. This leaves us a short fall of $17,886.75 to be current with our budget at this time. Even though we have this budget short fall we have not overspent our budget. We are watching our finances very carefully but we ask each member and friends of First Baptist Church to look at what they can do to help us make up this shortfall.

Our mission field is white for harvest and it does cost money to do many of the ministries we do. We are thankful for what we have received and what people have given to our church budget and building fund. Let's give with a cheerful heart and continue to reach out in his community.

Rejoice Easter Has Come

Easter is always a busy time in our church and this Easter was no exception. Our Church Pre-School celebrated Easter with a Easter Egg Hunt and many of their parents came to be apart of this event. At lunch that day we served them Hot Dogs and our kids were very excited. Pictures can be found on Facebook under First Baptist LaBelle Pre-School. The staff of our Church Pre-School took the time to share with our children the meaning of Easter and how Jesus died for us.

On Saturday, April 3rd we have our Church Easter Egg Hunt for Pre-Schoolers and Children. I wish I could tell you how many we had but the kids were moving so fast I couldn't get a count. The Social Hall was full of children and parents. I would like to thank everyone who helped in making this Easter Egg Hunt a great success. We had several news couples who came to our Easter Egg Hunt and they expressed interests in our church ministries and our Church Pre-School. We are hoping some of them will bring their children to our Church Pre-School this coming school year. Pictures of our Church Easter Egg Hunt can be found on Facebook under the First Baptist Church of LaBelle.

Easter Sunday, we were blessed with a large crowd. Chairs had to be brought in so that everyone could have a seat. We had many visitors who join us for this special Sunday. We were bless with over 300 people in attendance for Easter Sunday Morning. Our Adult Choir bless us with a great musical presentation of the Easter Story. I would like to thank each member of the Adult Choir and Mrs. Tara Sherrod for the great job they did in presenting this exciting gospel story of Jesus Christ and his Love.

On Easter Sunday morning we took our offering for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering and we took in over $1,400.00. This money goes to the North American Mission Board to send and support missionaries in North America. Thank You Church for this great support.

Every Sunday can be Easter Sunday because of what Jesus has done for us.! Come and join us this Sunday!

International Childcare Missions

For more than 100 years the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes has been working to serve abused, neglected and orphaned children in Florida and now we are also reaching out to serve children in the developing world. Together we can be witnesses of the love of Jesus Christ to the least of these here in Florida and to the ends of the earth.

There are more than 143 million orphans throughout the world — each number represents one of God’s precious children. God has given us an awesome task, but before he gave us this task he gave us his awesome spirit.

We need you! Be a part of international childcare missions. Come be a witness to the ends of the earth as we work to provide assistance to orphanages and other childcare centers in the developing world. In the process we also share the gospel of Jesus Christ to these children and others. Join us in the wonderful adventure of helping abused, neglected and orphaned children in the developing world. What a joy it is when you bring a smile to a child in another part of the world that does not speak your language.

We are so blessed — will you go and share the blessing with others? Join us on one of our mission trips to share the love of Christ with a child. For more information go the Florida Baptist Children's Home site fbchomes.org and then click the International Missions tab. Then click the calendar tab for upcoming mission trips and find one that you feel God wants you to go. Then there is a place for you to fill out an application to go on this trip. Please be in prayer if this is something God wants you to do.

The Church: A Building or a Body

Matt Tullos is Pastor of Bluegrass Baptist church in Hendersonville, Tennessee and he writes for Let's Worship Magazine. I would like to share his article about the church. I hope you will enjoy it.

Some churches have felt like a country club, complete with secret handshakes, special membership privileges, and perks for members based upon your seniority and attitude. But we are not called to be a country club.

Some churches are more like a fashion show where once a week we are concerned more about what the members look like on the outside than who we are on the inside. But we are not called to be a fashion show.

Some churches are like a spa where healthy people come to be pampered, to get a personality makeover and attend self-help rallies devoid of the power of God. They'd never think about service because the church is meant only for enrichment--not spiritual warfare. But we are not called to be a spa.

Other churches are like courtroms full of authority and judgment. They offer stern faces and hushed whispers. Some believe that these churches are holy because of the formal atmosphere and the lack of tolerance for things like laughter, celebration, and dancing. These churches are dead; they just don't have the good grace to lie down. But we are called to be a court.

We also find the church of cool, where musicians display their gifts not to the glory of God but rather to the glory of themselves. The tendency toward outlandishess knows no bounds. they are different just for the sake of being different. Messages aren't centered on the bible; in fact, some sermons might cause you to wonder if there's really a point beyond the emotions and the glitz of atmosphere. What is the vibe? But we are not called to be cool.

Each model apart from the work of Christ is like a cemetery. You can put flowers of the graves, you can have tea parties next to the tombs, you can pipe in the best music and serve the best meals; but without Christ the cemetery is still full of deadness. But we are not called into death.

So what about us? Are we any of these church? Most churches have been all of these from time to time. That's why it is so important for us to be desperate and dependent on God. Do we want to see people who are hurting and in need come to us for help!

How far are we willing to go? Whom do we chose to exclude? Jesus is still knocking at the door of churches promising that if anyone hears His voice and opens the door, He will come in and eat with them.

Let's invite people to the table through worship and become the kind of churches He desires to enter.

Your Local Mission Money

We had discovered an urgent need at the boys home and that was the need for a new generator. So as a group we pool our money together and had enough to buy a new generator. I had brought $700 from our our Local Mission Money to use for something we feel felt was an urgent need. So I gave the $700 so that this generator could be bought.

On the fourth day at the orphange Ron and Gray took off for Caphaitian to buy the generator. According to Gray, they really had a privileged opportunity to see the true culture, of the country of Haiti along the way. The trip took a little longer than expected due to road conditions and just pure congestion along the way and in the city. But faithfully, God provided in a mighty way! They guys originally set out with enough funds to purchase a ten kilowatt generator, but by the grace of God, they received an unexpected discount in price from the store owner and were able to purchase and eleven kilowatt generator for the “boys house” along with a huge tank for fuel storage and a hand crank to distribute the fuel. For those of you who are wandering the difference: an eleven kilowatt generator, per Preston, has the ability to run everything for a two thousand square foot house in the states. This is an absolutely amazing blessing for the twenty-five boys and staff that live in that home. This generator will allow them to have some of the basics that we take for granted: fans, clean laundry, lights to study and fellowship, and of course the biggie, water. We praise God for granting the funds necessary for this purchase, safe travel to and from Caphaitian, the generator being in stock and available, and the discount that provided so much more than expected.

Judgement House

This weekend March 5-7th we will be doing Judgement House. Our story this year is "Web of Lies" and it is about the dangers of internet predators.

Well over 200 million people use social networking sites like MySpace, and Facebook and Erica is one of them, unfortunately for her, so is AJ, a father with a checkered past and a double life. Erica finds friendship and a good listener in Reynaldo a Brazilian exchange student and high school soccer player in just such a social networking site. Her new friend would love to meet her in person if she is willing. Most of her friends don't think it is such a good idea, and her parents don't even know she's chatting online with anyone.

With a naive curiosity and sense of safety, Erica makes plans to sneak away from a slumber party once her friends and parents fall asleep and meet up with Reynaldo. She manages to sneak out with her friend Trish, but doesn't anticipate her father, Bill, checking in on the girls late that evening after she has left. Her father quickly finds out about her late night meeting and rushes out to find his daughter before something terrible happens.

Erica finds herself in a familiar pizza restaurant, and in the company of an oddly dressed Reynaldo who is more than happy to offer her the drink into which he has quietly added a common date rape drug. Moments after Erics is finished with the drink, Reynaldo is leading her out of the restaurant, and into the final stages of his dark fantasy, when Bill literally runs into hhis daughter and her abductor. In the ensuing struggle Erica loses her life, Bill loses his daughter, and Trish loses her double-life leading father to the justice system.

Performances are 6 to 9pm Friday and Saturday nights and 4 to 7pm on Sunday night. Reservations are now open by calling the church at 863-675-2171 and a $3 per person donation is suggested.

Haiti Trip Update

Preston and I met our group at the Miami Airport on Saturday. There is six men and 11 women on our trip. Our flight to Santiago went smoothly and getting the Dom. Republic went well. We spent the night in the Santiago because the Haitan borders close at 4pm so we will be crossing the borders today (Sunday). Please be in pray as we cross the Haitian border today. We still don't know what conditions we are facing at the orphanage in Haiti.

Last night we met a pastor who works with over 100 children who look for food on the city dump. I was talking with Don Gunther our leader from the Florida Baptist Children's Home and they are planning to bring 5 groups this year to help with this dump ministry. Two of these groups are filled but he is still needing people to fill the other groups. You can find information on the Florida Baptist Children's Home website, fbchomes.org. This is something that individuals can do.

Preston and I are thankful for your prayers and we will be praying for you.

Sunday, Feb. 14 set as Day of Prayer for Haiti

John Sullivan, executive director of the Florida Baptist Convention, has called upon “the collected voices of Southern Baptists to pray for the hurting people of Haiti as they try to recover from one of the most devastating disasters in the Western Hemisphere.”

The “Day of Prayer for Haiti,” set for Sunday, Feb. 14, seeks to ask for God’s mercy and strength as the Haitians heal from the Jan. 12 catastrophic earthquake that affected 3.5 million people and killed more than 200,000 men, women and children.

“By lifting our voices in intercession for the people of Haiti, we can petition God’s intervention in this desperate time of trial and tribulation,” Sullivan said.

“Through prayer we can have a life-changing impact upon the helpless, homeless and hopeless people of Haiti. We must pray for their physical and spiritual well-being in the days to come.”

Sullivan has traveled to Haiti more than a dozen times, overseeing the work of Florida Baptists in their 15-year partnership with Haitian Baptists. As a result of that partnership, nearly 900 new churches have been planted.

“I never go to Haiti that my life is not changed,” Sullivan said.

“I believe they are some of the sweetest people on the face of this earth. They have so little in the eyes of the world. Those who have found the grace of Jesus Christ are filled with a simple joy reminiscent of the early New Testament Christians,” he said.

“We can change their plight through prayer.”

Craig Culbreth, director of Florida’s Partnership Missions Department, has traveled to Haiti twice since the Jan. 12 quake. He believes prayer will be one of Southern Baptists’ greatest tools as they respond to the disaster.

“While not everyone can travel to Haiti, we can all pray.”

Culbreth suggested several guidelines of prayer:

“Pray for the Haitian people in Haiti as they struggle with the fear that the earthquake has brought to them and pray for those who struggle and grieve for the loss of relatives, friends, homes and jobs.

“Pray for their daily needs of food, water and shelter. Pray that the Great Physician will heal their suffering.”

“Pray for peace to overcome the fear that keeps them from returning inside their homes.”

“Pray that Haiti will become a spiritual harvest field where the Gospel will be received so lives will be changed. Not just for one day but forever.”

Culbreth also asked Southern Baptists to pray that God will help Southern Baptist disaster responders overcome obstacles as they meet urgent needs. Pray for the challenge of access into Port-au-Prince by air and sea, transportation within the country and facilities to house relief workers.

On Sarturday, February 13, 2010 we will have a 24 hour day of prayer for Pastor Frank and Preston trip to Haiti and the people of Haiti. If you would like to join our 24 hour day of prayer, please contact Flora Zimmerely.

Buckets of Hope touch lives in Haiti

Many people are still asking me about how they can help the people of Haiti. Here is one way you are several people joining together could help a family in Haiti.

Changing a life in Haiti is possible for every Florida Baptist by filling a “Bucket of Hope” for a Haitian family still suffering from the devastating effects of the Jan. 12 earthquake.

“These ‘Buckets of Hope’ are just one way Florida Baptists can fulfill the mandate of Jesus Christ to feed the hungry in the name of Jesus,” said John Sullivan, executive director-treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention. “As we are reminded in Matthew 25:45, Jesus tells us, “Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it to one of the least of these, yet did it to me.” (KJV)

For as little as $30, Florida Baptists can purchase a solid color plastic five-gallon bucket from their local Walmart or on the internet and pack it with rice, cooking oil, black beans, flour, sugar, spaghetti noodles and peanut butter. Once the food supplies are used, Haitian families will find multiple everyday uses for the bucket.

In addition Baptists are requested to include a $10 cash contribution, placed in an envelope and attached to the lid of the bucket, to offset the cost of transporting the relief buckets to Haiti.

Florida Baptists, who will be working with their fellow Southern Baptists on this project, will be asked to take their “Buckets of Hope” to a centralized location in their association, where they will be picked up by Florida disaster relief teams and transported to a Hialeah warehouse.

Before it is shipped to Haiti, each bucket will be labeled with a gospel message in French Creole.

Florida Baptist disaster relief director Fritz Wilson said the project is similar to “Gifts of Love” project in 2003 when Southern Baptists packed and sent 70-pound boxes to Iraqi refugees. More than 46,000 families received those boxes.

Uniform sizes of the containers—such as the buckets—facilitate shipping in cargo containers, Wilson explained.

Uniform contents are also critical, said Wilson, for packing and to ensure “that every Haitian family gets what we tell them is in the box.” Each bucket will be identified as a gift of Christian love and support from Southern Baptist churches in America.

“Buckets of Hope” must be completed and delivered to local Baptist association collection points by March 15. Royal Palm Baptist Association at 5481 Briarcliff Road, Fort Myers, Florida or the Florida Baptist Children Home in Fort Myers.

New Update on the Haiti Earthquake and Response

I received another letter from Dr. John Sullivan concerning the work in Haiti. On Sunday we took a special offering for Haiti to support the work Florida Baptist are doing in that country. We took in $773.00 for Haiti and this money will be sent this week to the Florida Baptist Convention to aid in the work in Haiti. I've ask that our Mission Committee would look in how this church could help Haiti for now and in the future. Here is the update from Dr. John Sullivan

A two-person Florida Baptist Convention assessment team arrived in Port-au-Prince, Sunday, Jan. 17, and is in the process of determining how Florida Baptists can meet needs and provide assistance to the residents of the earthquake-damaged city.

The team consists of Dennis Wilbanks, associate, Partnership Missions Department, and Joseph Gaston, director of the Language Haitian Church Development Department. While in the Haiti airport, Gaston, a native of Port-au-Prince, led a Haitian woman to faith in Christ.

Wilbanks directed the Convention's disaster response in Haiti after five previous hurricanes. In preparation for the response, the Convention has purchased 21 tons of rice to be transported to Miami and readied for shipment to Haiti.

Wilbanks reported that the Convention-owned mission house is severely damaged but may be useable.

"This will be among our first rebuild priority because it will allow us to facilitate construction teams and clean up crews much more quickly," said John Sullivan, executive director-treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention.

The house, located in Port-au-Prince between the airport and city, will be the base of operations for the Convention's relief efforts. The mission house sleeps nearly 50 volunteers at a time and provides food and safety for mission teams traveling into Haiti.

"We anticipate having a word this week about our churches in Port-au-Prince, as well as our pastors' homes," he added. "These are our brothers and sisters serving Christ in this difficult nation."

Wilbanks will be working with seven national missionaries serving in Haiti as employees of the Florida Baptist Convention who have been reported to have survived the earthquake. They are believed to be assessing damage within their churches and communities.

"These men have been trained in disaster relief by the Florida Baptist Convention," said John Sullivan, executive director-treasurer. "They know their country, their people and have experience responding in the aftermath of hurricanes. We are grateful to God that they are safe and are there to minister to the Haitian people."

Craig Culbreth, director of the Convention's Partnership Missions Department, who has traveled to Haiti 60 times in the past 11 years, and Fritz Wilson, director of the Disaster Relief and Recovery Department are scheduled to travel to Haiti on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Florida Baptists' 15-year partnership with Haiti Baptists has resulted in the starting of 892 congregations across the nation.

Financial contributions are being received to secure food and humanitarian assistance. Florida Baptists and their churches can contribute directly to the Florida Baptist Convention. Every dollar donated will be used to purchase food and to provide humanitarian resources. All administrative costs are being underwritten by the Cooperative Program and Maguire State Mission Offering.

Responding to Haiti Earthquake

By now many of you have heard about the earthquake in Haiti. This morning I received this message from Dr. John Sullivan who is our Executive Director-Treasurer, of our Florida Baptist Convention. I would like to share his letter with you.

Staff of the Florida Baptist Convention is diligently working on a response effort to assist the people of Haiti who were affected by the 7.3 earthquake that shook the impoverished island nation on Tuesday, January 12, 2010.

We are calling upon all Florida Baptists to remember in prayer the people of Haiti who were suffering even before this latest disaster struck. Also please be in prayer for the 890 Baptist churches affiliated with the Florida Baptist State Convention and their nearly 60,000 members who have directly been affected by this natural disaster.

Secondly, the Florida Baptist Convention's response efforts will require financial resources to secure foodstuffs and humanitarian assistance. Florida Baptists and their churches can contribute directly to the Florida Baptist Convention. Every dollar donated will be used solely for this purpose. At this time we can only accept financial resources.

Those gifts-earmarked for disaster relief--can be sent to the Florida Baptist Convention at 1230 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida, 32207. Additionally, individuals can make contributions through the Convention's website: www.flbaptist.org.

The Florida Baptist Convention has an assessment team that is ready to go into Haiti just as soon as transportation can be arranged. The team will determine where foodstuffs and other commodities can be shipped, stored and distributed. Then the team will assess damage to Convention-owned property and the churches that comprise the Confraternite Missionaire Baptiste d' Haiti (CMBH).

The Florida Baptist Convention, which has had a 15-year missions partnership with Haitian Baptists, employs six native Haitian missionaries who are expected to provide information on the needs to which the Florida Baptist Convention can respond. No other Southern Baptist entity has missionary personnel in the country or the experience in responding to disaster relief in Haiti as had the Florida Baptist Convention.

As a church lets pray for the people of Haiti. If God's leads you to give to this cause you can write a check to our church and we will forward it to the Florida Baptist Convention.

Happy Thanksgiving

Tomorrow we will celebrate Thaksgiving. Cathy and I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. I received a poem from Bryan Beer this morning that I would like to share with you. Bryan I hope this is ok?

What Thanksgiving Means to Me

Thanksgiving is a time when we center our thoughts on the things that God has put in our care.

Things like our home, cars, children and health, even the clothes we wear.

God made a promise that our needs he would supply.

Sometimes we don't get what we want and wonder why.

We all remember the old gospel hymn, "Count Your Blessings", try to name them one by one;

If we started today, it would take hours to tell all that God has done.

God has blessed us with children, and we are so grateful for that,

They are a special gift and we love all of them, that's a well known fact.

Spending time with family on this speical day is always a must,

And it's even better if we can have friends celebrate it with us.

Reading the Bible everyday is something we all need to do,

The words from God will calm the spirit for me and for you.

To be thankful in all things is a verse in the good book,

Ephesians Chapter 5, verse 20 is what Paul wrote, take a look.

The best way to end this poem is to be thankful on this Thanksgiving Day,

Let's do what God commands us to do, that is to love one another is our own Special Way.

Pastor Appreciation

The month of October has been set aside as Pastor Appreciation Month. I would like to thank you for what you did for me during this month of appreciation. I appreciated the two big cards that was sign by members of the church and given to me. I look at them every day and I give thanks to the Lord for you. I appreciate the gift cards and love gifts that were given by Sunday School classes and by individuals. I used some of the money that was given for our trip to Maine, this was very helpful. I especially like the brownies and sweet breads and other pastries that was given. It always feels good to be appreciated and I am very thankful. The Lord has bless me and my family with 14 years of service at this church and we are thankful. I just wanted to let you know, I am thankful for each of you and what the Lord is doing in our church.

HomeComing Week At Labelle High School

Today I went out to the High School during lunch to be with our youth. I always enjoy my time out at our High School. We have great kids and teachers out at our high school. This week they are celebrating Homecoming Week. It is always fun to observe the things they do during Homecoming week. Today was pajama day and it was fun to see them in their pajamas. Each day they have a different theme and on Friday they have the Homecoming parade that goes down Main Street in front of the church around 4pm. If you want to come out to watch the parade the church is a good place to watch it.

Lets remember to support our kids. If we want to see them in church lets spend some time with them and get to know them. As a church lets pray for our youth and lift them up to the Lord each day. Our youth face many pressures at home and in this world today. Many of youth are searching, so lets help them find the right direction in their life. Pray for Preston as he works with our youth in the community.

Mission Need in Romania

Hello Everyone from Romania.

Our trip to Romania is truly a blessing from God. On Saturday morning I spoke at the Pastor's Conference and I shared with them about sharing the gospel using the Evangecube Cards. The Pastors responded well to this presentation and have requested that I send them 200 E-cards for the use of sharing the gospel. They also would like for us to send them some of the key chain evangecubes. I would like to do this as soon as possible but I will need your help because we do not have extra money in our budget for this. These E-cards cost $8 per pack of 25 and I'm not sure of the price of the key chain. If you would like to be apart of this ministry please let me know. This is something that an individual, Mission organization, Sunday School class could do. Please pray about this mission need.

Please continue to pray for us while we serve here in Romania. We are praying for you and are thankful for our church.

Who Is In Your Wallet?

"With every prayer and request, pray at all times in the spirit, and stay alert in this, with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints. Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel. " Ephesians 6:18-19

Personal evangelism has always defined Southern Baptists. This main focus constantly challenges us to build bridges of relationships with the lost to reach out to them with the good news of Jesus Christ. It is a great privilege to share the gospel with unbelievers and to accept a personal responsibility for those around us who have never made a commitment to follow Jesus Christ. Soul-Winning Commitment Day challenge you to keep evangelism the main thing by personally committing to prayer for and to share Christ with those around you.

This Sunday, October 4th in our Morning Worship Service, we will be observing Soul-Winning Commitment Day in our church. Each person will be given on that day a 3-1-6 Prayer Card. We are asking believers in Jesus Christ to make a commitment to do one or all of the following:

Share Christ with one person for 30 days

Invite one person to church each day in October

Give away ________ number of gospel tracts

Take a witness training class.

Let this year's Soul-Winning Commitment Day be a catalyst to propel our church to reach out to our circles of influence with good news of the gospel!

What Would God Say?

This morning I have been rereading the book of Nehemiah and reading the comments in Holman Old Testament commentary Volume 9. I would like to share some of material that I read out of the commentary this morning. I was reading chapter three of Nehemiah, where the hard work of actually building the wall began. Nehemiah wrote in his journal the names of real people--individuals and families who applied themselves to the project. This was hard, dirty, and sometimes dangerous work, but together they saw it to completion.

A quote by Sam Ewing, " Hard work spotlights the character of people; some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all."

Have you ever noticed what many people talk about after church on Sunday? "That was a decent sermon," or "I sure didn't like that one song," or "I wonder why Mrs. Johnson wore that same dress again," or better, "I really felt like I was worshiping today."

If God reviewed a Sunday service at our local church, he would probably write something like this:
The nursery was led by Vanita, with Al and Jenny serving as one of the couples that helped with the babies. The ushering was led by Bobby, with Roy and Harry; leading the crews for the first two services. The greeters were organized by Merleen, and every door had someone there with a smile. The middle school was taught by Preston and Lonnie. The parking was directed by Bob, with seven volunteers pitching in. And on and on.

I hope you get the point. God knows how vital every role is, and he notices what everyone is doing. It was the same when Nehemiah and the people of Judah built the wall in Jerusalem.

What will you be doing this Sunday to help build the church?

We Need You!

Our new education building is coming to completion very soon. We need volunteers to do the sprinkler system and landscaping for the new education building. We have an approved landscaping plan from the City of Labelle that we must follow, and the deacons and trustees thought this was something we could do ourselves. We would like to start on this plan sometime the first week of August. If you would like donate labor, supplies, plants, trees or money, contact Jerry Jones or Wayne Simmons, who are in charge of this project. Any donations of plants or trees must be within the parameters of the approved design.

We will also need men to help pull wires and cable for the phones, computers and video feed sometime in the evening over the next two weeks. Conduit is there, we just need to pull approximately 12,000 feet of wiring through. This must be done before the ceiling gets completed. If you would like to help with this project, please contact Joby Sherrod or Pastor Frank.

Yesterday the Home Health Nurse came and checked Cathy out and stayed close to two hours visiting with her. Cathy has started using the machine that keeps bending the knee and has to stay in that machine for two hours, two times a day. Cathy is also doing two times a day some physical therpy exercises that they taught her at the hositpal . She is moving around the house with the aid of a walker. The physical therapist will be out tomorrow to work with her. Please continue to pray for her as she recovers and gains strength in the knee.

In our Morning Worship Service this Sunday, July 12,2009 our New Orleans Mission Team will give its report about the ministry that was done. For several of our team members this trip was there first time to go on a mission trip. It is exciting to see how people react and grow when they are on a Mission Trip. When you are on the mission field you don't always know what is going to happen. You realize very fast that you are not in control and who are you going to rely upon. It should remind us that everyday we need to rely upon our Savior because we are not in control but he is.

What Controls Your Day?

How was your day? As you know Cathy and I are still at Physicians Regional Medical Center in Naples where she had knee replacement surgery. We both didn't sleep well the first night but the second day was very busy. Cathy had Physical Therapy at 9am and 1pm and was worn out from it. While this was happening we had Aarika and her group going to Southeast Asia. Today the flew from Atlanta to Chicago and are now flying from Chicago to Hong Kong. There flight from Chicago to Hong Kong is 15 hours and 23 minutes, that is a long time on a plane. Cathy and I ask that you continue to pray for Aarika and the group. I also receive several phone calls from people today that are requesting prayer for family and things going on in their life.

By sharing just a few things that was going on in my life today I go back to the original question, "What Controls Your Day". There will always be demands or things pulling at us. We need to be careful about the demands that we all face and that we don't let them control us and pull us from our loving Lord. Our Lord doesn't want to control us but lead us in his blessed will. God has a plan for each of us and his path will also lead us home.

When things begin to pull at you tomorrow turn to our Lord and seek his path!

Lost and Found

In the last two days I have experience the feelings of being lost and found. Last night I was looking for Cathy's living will and I thought I knew exactly where it was. As the hours past on, I was getting frustrated that I couldn't find the document. After 4 hours of looking for the document I found the living will stuck in a three ring binder that didn't have anything to do with it. When I finally found the document I was relieved and excited that I found it so we could take it to the hospital with us on Tuesday for Cathy's surgery.

On Tuesday when we where at the hospital and Cathy was in surgery and I was in the surgical waiting room. Around 4pm they moved us to another waiting room to wait for news on Cathy. Around 5pm the doctor came and told me that Cathy did well with the surgery and that she was going to the recovery room. After another hour the recovery nurse came out and told us that Cathy was doing good and she sitting up eating chip ice. The nurse told me that she need an x-ray and then they would take her to her room. She said she would come back for us and take us to Cathy's room, well after two more hours I get an call from another nurse asking were we where. They sent a nurse to come find us and bring us up to Cathy's room where she had been waiting for over an hour. I was told by the nurse that I was lost and now I had been found. I thought to my self that I was not lost but had been misplaced. I didn't even know that I had to be found I thought I was in the place I was suppose to be.

For the last two weeks I've been preaching a series of sermons from Luke 15 dealing with being lost and found. The shepherd had a lost sheep and women had a lost coin. When you have something that is lost it feels great when you have found it. In our world today we have people who are lost spiritually and we have a savior name Jesus who wants to find them. There is great rejoicing in heaven when just one person is found and finds that loving Savior. I believe there are people who are lost in our world and they don't even know that they are lost. Today I was lost in the hospital and didn't even know it but it was great when I got back to Cathy's room.

Do you want to be found by a loving Savior who wants to welcome you into a special family, then look for Jesus.

Our New Orleans Mission Trip

On June 13, 2009 we left LaBelle with 28 in our group and drove to Marianna, Florida where we spent the night. That night it was good to see Aarika and one of her friends who met us at the hotel so Aaron and I could see her for a while. The next morning we woke up and drove on to New Orleans. That afternoon we first went to my old home church which is now Celebration Church - St. Bernard. It was strange driving into St. Bernard parish for the first time since Katrina. One of the first things I noticed was that all the landmarks that I used to know were now gone. I had to look a little harder to find my way around. We met the VBS Director, the Pastor, his wife, and the group of people working their VBS. We met with them for a while to get prepared for VBS the next morning. Then we left Arabi, Louisiana and drove out to Celebration Church - Airline, which is on Airline Highway in Metairie, LA. That is where we would stay the next 6 days. After we had an orientation session we went to the New Orleans Seafood and Hamburger Company for supper that night. The seafood was great!!! I think everyone enjoyed the food that night.

Our group was responsible for preparing breakfast each morning, so at 6AM we were up putting out breakfast, making coffee and putting out the stuff to make sandwiches for lunch. Each day we had to make our sandwiches for lunch so we could take them with us to our work site. Our VBS group left for Arabi to get ready for VBS by 7:30am. Our VBS crew had a good first day and did a little sight seeing later that day, like going to the Chalmette National Monument where the battle of New Orleans was fought.

The construction part of our group left at 8:00am after morning devotions. That Monday morning they had to go to an orientation with St. Bernard Project to learn about the building program in St. Bernard parish before they went to their first work-site. When our construction crew got to their first home they found out they were installing insulation. The temperature that day was around 95 degrees with a heat index which made it feel 103 degrees. Our construction crew was able to insulate the entire home in one day. It was a long day for the construction crew and the first thing they wanted to do when they got back was to take showers and get that insulation off their bodies.

Procrastination

One of things I must battle is Procrastination. I think most of us at some time or other has to battle procrastination. Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task which needs to be accomplished. This can lead to feelings of inadequacy, depression, guilt and self-doubt among people. Procrastination has a high potential for painful consequences.

Why do we procrastinate?

Poor time Management - Procrastination means not manging time wisely. You may be uncertain of your priorities, goals and objectives. You may also be overwhelmed with the task.

Difficulty concentrating - When you sit at your desk you find yourself daydreaming, staring into space, looking at pictures of your friends, instead of doing the task. Your environment is distracting and noisy. You keep running back and forth for equipment such as pencils, paper, dictionary, etc. Your desk is cluttered and unorganized. All these examples that you have just read promote time wasting and frustration.

Fear and Anxiety - You may be o overwhelmed with the task and afraid of getting a failing grade. As a result, you spend a great deal time of worrying, rather than completing them.

Negative Beliefs such as; "I cannot succeed in anything" and "I lack the necessary skills to perform the task".

Fear of Failure -

How to Overcome Procrastination! (This is where I need to practice what I preach)

Recognize self-defeating problems such as: fear and anxiety, difficulty concentrating, poor time management, indecisiveness and perfectionism.

Identify our goals, strengths and weaknesses, values and priorities.

Compare your actions with the values you have been taught and by the things God has for us.

Discipline ourselves to use time wisely: Set priorities.

Take things in smaller portions and work on them to you complete them. Reward yourself after you complete a task.

Motivate yourself. Dwell on success, not a failure.

Set realistic goals.

Modify your environment: Eliminate or minimize noise / distractions. Focus on the task at hand.

God wants us to have abundant life and we need to focus on him and see that he is able to deliver us from all situations.

Change

Yesterday was a day I knew I need to make some changes and I had looked into what those changes needed to be. I was still afraid to make the change but a change was needed. So I finally made the decisions and today has been a day of change. It started early today and at times I experience a little of the unknown but as the day went on I could tell that the change was good. From that step of faith I started experiencing something new and meeting new opportunities.

There are times in our life that God wants us to step in faith and allow change to take place. We analyze over it and know it is needed we are even afraid but we are scared. There needs to be a time we let go and let God take charge and let the changes begin. You might be surprise and enjoy the new opportunities.

Panama Mission Trip 2009

Preston and I have had a great week in Panama. We averaged 50 students for the week in our classes. These students are very appreciative for the training in church leadership. In just a week I have found myself; growing attached to them.

Yesterday I preached at Las Americas Baptist Church. It was my third or fourth time to preach there. I feel like this is my second church home. Preston shared in a new believers class on Sunday. Sunday night I spoke in another Baptist church.

Panama City, Panama has a population of one million people. It is very important that we train new Pastors and church leaders so that they can reach their city for Christ. I'm glad to be apart of Luther Rice University and First Baptist Church of Labelle in training these people.

It is amazing as I watch the machines they use to pour and cure the concrete on our new slab. You can tell this isn't their first time to do this kind of work. I took some more pictures of the slab and some of tiles in the concrete and at the door way. I have Aaron either put them in this article or post them on the website, because that task is beyond my talents. (Aaron's Note: I put the rest of them in a picture album you can see HERE.)

As you know, Preston and I will be leaving Sunday afternoon to go to Panama on a Mission Trip. We will be teaching local pastors and leaders in Panama. I ask for your prayers as we travel and keep our families in prayer as we are gone. If you need some assistance while we are gone, please call one of the deacons, Wayne Simmons, Bobby Holland, Frank Dana, Lonnie Howard or Ron Zimmerly. You can find their telephone numbers in the bulletin.

Next week, they should begin putting up the block to the new building. Feel free to come by and look at the new building as the blocks go up.

Have a good week!

Building Update

As I walked on the construction site today I'm reminded that it is a cold day for us in Florida. At the same time I felt the warmth of the sun and clear blue sky that reminds me that the Son of God is still on his throne. For many years we have talk about building a new education building because of the need to have adequate space for our ministry. Some would say that this is not the time to build but I believe that God is leading us to build at this time because he wants to show that this building we be built through his strength and not ours.

Let me share with you a few of things that God is doing. When we came with our Bond program of 1.7 millions dollars in Bonds there were those who said we couldn't sell that many bonds to friends and family of First Baptist. As of today, 1.2 million dollars worth of bonds have been sold in the to friends and family of First Baptist. Again that tells me God will show us what can be done through him. There is only 557,000 dollars worth of bonds left that can be purchase. Individuals can purchase bonds by calling Keith Glore with Commonwealth Church Finance at 1-877-370-0459.

Others have said that people won't keep giving their pledge money to pay the debt on the building. Last year in 2008 we average $8,000 to 10,000 a month in pledges given by people of First Baptist Church. As we enter into 2009 some have said that giving wouldn't continue for the new building. In January 2009 we took in over $9,000 for the building. God is showing us that if we stay faithful to him he will supply our needs. We have been blessed so much and as we look to future we realize that the Future is Now and God is leading the way.

Here is some exciting news, starting tomorrow they will begin pouring the slab of our new education building. This afternoon, Daniel Forrester our construction manager and I will take the scripture titles and lay then in the foundation of our new building. To me this is very exciting as we place God's word in the foundation of this building. I will take pictures and place them on the church web-site.

When we come to church Sunday, we will see the new slab to our new education building. Praise Him! Praise Him!

National Pastors Training Center in Panama

This is the new group of students in the National Pastors Training Center in Panama. There are 53 new students in this class. I will be teaching these students from February 9 to 14th 2009. This year I'm bringing Preston with me, so he can learn and gain experience from these missions trips. I will be teaching two courses. The first course I'll will be teaching is Personal Spiritual Life and the second is Teaching Principles and Methods.

The teaching of the national Pastors of Panama is being done through Luther Rice University in Georgia and the Panama Baptist Convention. This will be my fourth trip to Panama using the materials for Bible Training Centre for Pastor by Dennis J. Mock.

On Sunday, February 15, 2009 I will be preaching in one of the churches in Panama and Preston will be working with one of the youth groups. We do need some financial help for this trip. If you would like to give to this cause, please mark your envelope Panama 2009.

The 2009 Budget

Our Budget and Finance Committee worked very hard on our new budget. The members of our Budget and Finance Committee are: Wayne Simmons, Paul Puletti, Trish Arnold, Dick Crockett, Edith Hackmann, Paul Martin and a member of the Building & Maintenance Committee.

Our 2008 Budget was $426,543. Our offerings for 2008 was $389,023. With us starting on our new building and current financial conditions, we felt that we needed to cut our budget. So the committee presented to the church a budget for 2009 of $398,459, with a weekly requirement of $7,663. Each member is asked to give and support the work of the church. As the body of Christ we need to work together to support his work in his kingdom.

Last year members where asked to pledge to the Building Fund. We are still asking people to give to our Buidling Fund on a regular bases.

Tent Service and Judgement House

This Sunday, January 18, 2009 we will be having our Morning Worship Service under the tent in our ball field. As you know we are having Judgement House and we are unable to have church in the sanctuary. At 10:30am Sunday Morning we will begin playing and singing music. We will start our regular service at 11:00am. I hope you will make plans to be a part of this special service on Sunday.

Last year when we did this outdoor service, many expressed that it was one of our best services. Come casual tomorrow and enjoy the beautiful day.

Last night was our first night of Judgement House. We had cold temperatures, but a great crowd. Cold for Florida! We had seven professions of faith and two re-dedications.

Tonight we are having great crowds and cold weather (according to Florida standards). We have had several decisions tonight.

Please be in prayer for Judgement House. Pray for the workers, the staff, and the people who are going through it. We have one more night of Judgement House from 4 to 8pm. on Sunday afternoon.

My Trip to Panama

In February 2009 I will be going to Panama to teach the Bible Training Center for Pastors and Church Leaders courses. This will be my fourth trip Panama. When I went in January of 2008, it marked the graduation of the 2nd group that completed the 10 course study. Now the third group has started and has over 50 students involved.

One of the great things about this ministry is that this training is helping to instruct new leaders in the church, and is working to help the Panama Baptist Convention to start new churches. Several new churches have been started since this ministry has begun.

Each teacher that goes down to teach pays his own way. I have been fortunate the First Baptist Church of Labelle has paid my expenses. This year I could use some help with expenses for my trip. If you would like to help with this ministry, please send your gift to First Baptist Church Labelle, PO Box 369 Labelle, FL. 33975. Please mark your gift Panama Ministry.

This year I plan to take Preston along with me so he can learn from this experience. Please pray for us February 9-16th.

Thanks

Happy New Year (January 2009 Newsletter Article)

As I write this article today, there are several youth here volunteering their time to help with things here at the church. Some of these youth are helping with Judgement House preparation and others are helping with cleaning. It is good to have them around.

As you know we will be doing Judgement House on January 16 - 18. Mrs. Stella Luckey is leading us in this ministry this year. We need people to help and if you would like to be involved, please contact Mrs. Stella. On a personal note I will need about 20 individuals to help with the invitation time during Judgement House. If you are willing to help with that please contact me.

As you look around our church, construction is about to begin on our new 8,800 square foot education building. This will be an exciting time for our church as we build towards our future. I as you to continue to pray for our building program and the God will give us the people we need to suppor this endeavor. It will be sad to see the old building go down but exciting to see the new building come up out of the ground to give us needed space to work with our preschoolers, children and youth.

Our Children and Adult choirs did a great job in presenting the musicals last month. Please let them know how much you enjoyed them. Our choirs are getting ready for the New Year and this would be a perfect time for some of you who have been thinking about joining the choir to join. If you are interested in singing in the adult choir please talk with Mrs. Cathy Deerey. And if you are interested in signing up your child with the Children's Choir please speak with Mrs. Debbie White.

As we start this New Year I hope you will see the importance of being involved in God's work. We would love to have you involved here at First Baptist Church. If you are no sure what to do and would like to be involved, please talk to me and I will help you find a place for service.

Church Bond Program

When in Doubt?

Today I was reading a devotion by Henry Blackaby that helped me with the things I been thinking about our world and economic crisis that our country finds itself in. Dr. Blackaby made reference to Daniel 9:23 (NKJV) "At the beginning of your supplications the command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision:"

Daniel was in exile in Babylon as a result of his nation's utter defeat by the Babylonians. He was trying to understand what was happening to him and his country. So we find that Daniel went to God in prayer and God immediately dispatched an angel to revealed that God has sent this angel at the beginning of his supplication. God didn't wait for Daniel to finish his prayer. God loved Daniel greatly and when Daniel was in need, God was quick to respond in love to him.

God wants to answer the prayers of those whose hearts are completely His. 2 Chronicles 16:9 (NKJV) "For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.”

We need to be reminded that God can accurately orient you to the events of your day. Media, public opinion, and political leaders cannot tell you the truth of your circumstances, only God can. God loves us and will speak to us in His time. His answer may come immediately as it did in Daniel's case, or it may be delayed, but it will come. At times it seems as though everything is crumbling around you, and you wonder why you do not see God's activity, take comfort in knowing that you are loved in heaven. If you are genuinely seeking God's answers, you can go to your Father confidently with your questions.

Ground Breaking

Today we broke ground for our new 8,800 square foot education building. This building has been designed for our preschool, children, and youth departments. This new building will give us the space we need now and for the future. It was so good to see so many of you stay for our ground breaking ceremony. It was nice to see our children dig a shovel full of dirt, breaking ground for the building. Many of them will learn in this new building and might come to a saving knowledge of Christ.

In the coming days I want you to pray for the construction of our new building. Pray for the safety of the workers and for decisions that will need to be made. We will have Bond information meetings soon where members and friends of First Baptist Church can learn about purchasing bonds to finance our building. There will be a designated Sunday that you can meet with a representative from Commonwealth to discuss the bonds you want to purchase and sign up for them.

These are exciting days here at First Baptist and every day we need to depend upon the Lord. Let's stay faithful.

A Great Work Day!

This morning we had a work day at the church to clear out our education rooms, making it possible to tear down our old education building that has served us faithfully for 50 years. I want to thank everyone who came out to help. Your excitement toward what God is doing in our church is uplifting. We had estimated that the work done today alone would take at least two Saturdays. As every one worked together we were able to complete all of our work with time to spare.

We now begin a new chapter in the life of First Baptist Church. Tomorrow we will break ground on our new education building that will have over 8,800 square feet for us to use in the future. As we break ground tomorrow we also dedicate ourselves to be faithful to God and to pay for this new building as soon as possible. Tomorrow, as we break ground, we pray for all the people who will work on this building and for their safety.

Today's activities reminded me of a church family that works together. Together we were able to get so much done in a short period of time. I want to thank all you who helped today, because you were a blessing to me.

Leadership Survey's

On any given Sunday we will have 150 to 250 people in church. The majority of those folks are members of First Baptist Church of LaBelle and other dear friends of our church. For a church to work the way the Lord wants it to work it needs each member using the gifts they have in the work of the church. Each year we ask each member and friends of the church to fill out a leadership survey, which tells us which areas you are willing to serve in. Each year we are lucky if we it 25 surveys back from our members. With our building program under way and other new ministries in our church we need to you to work in our church.

We ask each member and friend to fill out a leadership survey and turn it in by Sunday, August 10th. If you don't have a survey to can get one in foyer of the church sanctuary or go to our church web site at www.fbclabelle.org and fill out the survey on line. I hope you understand that we need each member and friend of First Baptist Church.

Please be in prayer for our Nominating Committee as they fill the leadership positions of the church.

Jamaica Praise Report

We returned from Jamaica last Friday evening. The Lord truly blessed us in our trip. As we reflect on our trip, we are thankful for all the supporters who prayed and gave sacrificially so we could go to Jamaica. Those who gave to this cause was a vital part of this trip.

This year we served at Emanuel Missionary Church in Mandeville, Jamaica. This church has lost its last two pastors to cancer and is presently searching for another Pastor. We had 173 children enrolled in VBS at this church and this is the most they ever had. We average 169 children each day. At the end of the week we had 63 of those children accept Jesus Christ as there Lord and Savior.

Different members of our team preach at the night services that we had for the teenagers of this church. I preached Sunday night, Paul Martin preached Monday night, Preston Long, Jr., preached Tuesday night, Jeremy Peery preached Wednesday night and Patrick Mylmount preached Thursday night. Each night our mission team sang praise and worship songs under the leadership of Larry Luckey.

The Lord worked in each member of our team and the Lord gave us a blessed week.

Brian and Pearl Williams

Last Sunday night we had the privilege of having Brian and Pearl Williams share about their work in Vienna, Austria. We started supporting Brian and Pearl last year at this time. We are currently supporting them at a $100 a month and we praying if we should increase this amount for the coming year.

Brian and Pearl work at a Christian school where International Students come to be taught. For most of these students they are there for two years. In those two years the teachers at this school have a opportunities to share Christ with these students. Many of these students have accepted Christ.

Please be in prayer for Brian and Pearl as they will be flying back soon to start a new school year.

JAMAICA! Let's Give Thanks

In two weeks we will be going to Jamaica with 21 people from our church. For the last 6 months we have been asking for donations and having yard sales. As a team we would like to thank everyone in our church and our community for their help for us to go to Jamaica. For many of our friends you have gone above and beyond in your giving to our Mission Trip. I know God will bless you for your giving.

I ask of you that you will be praying for us as we leave for Jamaica on July 11th. We will be serving at Emmanuel Missionary Church in Mandeville, Jamaica. This church has recently lost their pastor to cancer and is in need of encouragement. We will be conducting VBS in the morning and having services each night. Please be in prayer for these services.

We are still in need of $4,000 to complete our trip. I believe God has someone who has been waiting and now is the time for them to give. This is all in God's hands. Amen!

Thanks for the Prayers

I returned home from China yesterday. My Discovery Trip was very rewarding and successful. Over the next several weeks I would like to tell you about my trip to China and about the people of China.

I do appreciate your prayers for me while I traveled to China. The day that I left for China I was very sick. The 13 hour flight over to China was trying and at times I wonder if I was going to make it. I knew that my church family was praying for me and I felt the Lord's presence as I went to this new frontier.

There was 57 people from the United States that went to China. We represented many of the states on this great country. None of us had met each other before so we had great time meeting new friends. Most of the group was younger than myself but it was good to see some of the energy and excitement that came from this group.

Yesterday, as I got back in Labelle I enjoy seeing some of you about town and I knew I was back home. As I look out at the people of Labelle, I'm grateful God has called me to serve him here in Labelle. I know this is my place of service but opportunities like going to China, help me broaden my vision and challenge me in ways that benefit my ministry. I just want to thank you for allowing me to go to China and your prayers for me and my family while I was away.

Thanks

Recommendation for New Youth Director

Our Search Committee is recommending that Preston Long be our New Full-Time Youth Director. As many of you know Preston is a member of First Baptist Church of Labelle. In the last three years Preston has actively served in our church. He is a Youth Sunday School Teacher, works in our Sound Room Ministry, a Deacon in our church, has worked in our Children's Choir Program, has been part of our Jamaica Mission Team and participates in our Wednesday Night Youth Program.

Preston knows many of our youth and has a relationship with them. On Sunday, June 1st, in our evening service we have called for a special business meeting to vote on Preston as our New Full-Time Youth Director. If the church approves his placement as Youth Director, he will begin Monday, June 2, 2008. Please be in prayer as we take this important step in the life of First Baptist Church.
